about

Debut LP, "Future Dust" coming soon on FDH Records in the US and P. Trash in Europe. 9 tracks of stacked synths, demonic druming and burned-out/blown-out vocals. Includes a cover of Digital Leather's classic, "Devotion". Future Dust" is a record of recurring melodies, pummeling poly-rhythms and over the top vocals from frontman Bobby Hussy. Emotionally draining and jarring.

A record for the stoners, loners and droners of the godforsaken world we live in.

Cave Curse was born in Madison, WI sometime in 2014. It began as an outlet for Bobby Hussy (The Hussy, Fire Heads, TIT) to create simple synth pop/darkwave tracks in the downtime between making new The Hussy recordings. The project was aptly named for the curse of the dank basement apartment Bobby lived in alongside his fellow Fire Heads' bandmates during the project's gestation period. The first Cave Curse recordings were built around a Boss DR 770 drum machine, a Moog Sub Phatty and a Novation Bass Station. Volar Records was quick to pick up the project and issued the debut single, "Stoned And Dethroned" in early 2015. The single featured the same brand of sticky-sweet hooks garage fans had come to expect from Bobby Hussy, but this time they were hidden under a mountain of analogue synthesizers instead of buzzing guitars.

Cave Curse was initially planned as a bedroom only project....until early 2016 when Hussy met drummer Will Gunnerson, (most known for his work in the two-piece sludge punk band Jabberjosh). Gunnerson had recently transplanted to Madison from Kansas, and the two bonded quickly over shared interests and musical taste. Cave Curse made their live debut in Madison, WI at High Noon Saloon in January of 2016 and promptly became a staple in the local community: ultimately working up to playing the Majestic Theatre with stoner rock titans Bongzilla. Cave Curse spent the entirety of 2016 getting prepared to track their debut LP, "Future Dust". Gunnerson put down the drums in a single session in January of 2017 at Hussy's new home studio, Hex Empire. Bobby then began the tedious task (nearly six months) of layering the slew/stew of synths and adding vocals. The project was Bobby's longest recording session of his life.

The resulting album, "Future Dust", is a concise 25 minute "concept" album of death, despair and destruction: Hussy lost his mother unexpectedly while walking near her home in December of 2015 when she was struck by a car that lost control on black ice. This record is dedicated to her memory, and it is the first full-length Bobby has released since her passing. Future Dust's songs are the direct correlation between Hussy coming to terms with losing his own mother and understanding his own mortality. They are the first songs he has written since her passing. They convey a much more dismal feeling than anything we've heard in Bobby Hussy's lengthy previous output since becoming a Midwestern garage-rock staple with The Hussy in 2008. The Hussy has always had a dark side to their unique brand of bright noise-pop...but we've never seen Bobby Hussy go quite this dark, depressed or dramatic.

Bobby Hussy sums the project up best himself in the title track...
"We are all future dust. We are all creeping towards death."

For fans of: Digital Leather, Lost Sounds, Tuxedomoon, Bauhaus, Units, Urinals, etc.

PRESS:

"RSTB fave Bobby Hussy (The Hussy, Fire Heads) has taken a turn through synth-punk territory with Cave Curse, pounding out dystopian grind since the band’s debut single on Volar back in 2015. The latest pins kaleidoscopic keys to a dark, corrosive undercurrent that’s shrouded in evil. “Drones” pulls some real Angry Angles vibes, which is always a good thing in my book. Fraught, frantic and unconcerned for its well-being, the band’s album on FDH breaks form with many of its synth-wave compatriots with bright, bold keys that explode out of the speakers. Check out the premiere for the band’s latest video “Drones (We’re All)” above. "

"The showcase doubles as a celebration for the release of Cave Curse's new LP Future Dust, a densely layered sequence of synth-driven punk songs, heavily inspired by Digital Leather with a focus on spacey hooks and Bobby Hussy's wild, Jay Reatard-esque vocal delivery. It's the project's debut full-length and its first release since Hussy solidified Cave Curse's new live lineup with Ben Brooks and Tyler Spatz of Poney and No Hoax, and Emili Earhart of And Illusions (who writes for Tone Madison), though the album itself features just Hussy and drummer Will Gunnerson."

"....The result of those jam sessions is Future Dust, a concise, melancholic album that marks Hussy’s most personal release since his mother’s death in a car accident in 2015. Raw emotion is on full display in Future Dust’s nine tracks..."

"...I’m psyched now to be checking out Bobby’s project Cave Curse, whose energetic synth-punk brings to mind those wild nights of moshing, beer spraying, and unpredictable crowds in DIY venues like Wally’s. You can hear it in their track “Drones (We’re All),” from Cave Curse’s debut LP, “Future Dust,” released by FDH Records, and the new video for which is below. Dark but high-energy and upbeat, it just makes you want to get drunk and be in a crowd of friends and strangers shoving each other — with a rallying cry of “I’m always getting stoned.” Cave Curse describes the record as “a record for the stoners, loners and droners of the godforsaken world we live in..."
